How To Prep For Your Waxing Service

Whether this is your first wax or your are a seasoned veteran, we want to reveal a few tricks of the trade that promise to make for a better waxing experience. From the ideal timeframe between appointments, to how to prep your skin just before, keep reading to discover all there is to know about your upcoming appointment at Smooth Body Wax Center.

How to prep for your upcoming visit at  Smooth Body Wax Center:

1. Book Appointment:

Smooth Body Wax Center’s easy-to-use online booking system allows you to make an appointment in just a few clicks. Select your service, date & time, and voila! You’re all set. Remember, for the best results, we recommend booking your next waxing appointment every 4-5 weeks.

2. Prep For Your Waxing Appointment:

  • Use a gentle scrub or exfoliating mit the night before your waxing appointment to slough away dead skin cells. This will make your hair easier to remove the next day by loosening the hair in the follicle. We also recommend using a moisturizer or body oil the night before to ensure your skin is hydrated, healthy, and ready for the waxing process.

  • Grow It Out Before Waxing: Your hair must be long enough for the wax to wrap around and pull it out from the root. Generally, the ideal length is roughly 3-4 weeks of hair growth (¼ inch in length). However, our hypoallergenic wax can remove hair as short as 2mm if you are in desperate need of an “emergency” wax. We of course can gaurantee the smoothest results if its not long enough. But you will be in good hands either way.

3. I'm Experiencing…. Can I Still Get Waxed?

  • I have my period can I still get waxed?

Yes, you can! We have found that you may be more sensitive to pain when you are menstruating, and may experience more discomfort than usual (though still very bareable). We recommend that you wear a fresh tampon at the time of your appointment and just make your service provider aware.

HOT TIP: You may be most sensitive the first and second day of your period and less the final few days of your cycle.

  • I am pregnant can I still get waxed?

Yes, you can! Your sweet new baby won't feel a thing during your appontment and we will do our best to ensure your comfort using positions that are optimal for pregnancy and hair removal.

  • I have a cold sore on my lip can I still get waxed?

Yes, all of our service providers wear gloves as well as ensure that we never double dip our wax sticks into the wax. This makes it safe for you and everyone else.

4. We do not recommend waxing if...

  • You have a sunburn or active rash.

  • If you've recently had treatments such as chemical peel, Dermabrasion, Microdermabrasion or cosmetic injections.

  • You are currently taking acne medication such as: Accutane (affects all body waxing), Retin-A (affects areas the cream is used on) or any other prescribed acne medication. These medications cause the skin to thin and be more susceptible to tearing during your wax appointment.

If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call or consult with your Doctor or Dermatologist about any other concerns.

5. AFTER YOUR WAX:

We recommend you wait at least 24 hours before exfoliating because your skin may still be sensitive from your waxing service. We have a range of gentle and effective exfoliants that have been made exclusively for waxing aftercare! We carry highly reviewed and trusted professional brands such as Bushbalm and SweetSpot Labs for your aftercare needs. From our luxurious scrubs that are gentle and smell amazing to our exfoilating wipes and roll-ons we have what you need to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

THIS HAPPENED AFTER MY APPOINTMENT. IS IT NORMAL?

If you experience red bumps post-treatment you aren't the only one in this boat... this is totally normal. When the hair is removed, it is being removed by the root and oftentimes, the follicle can be so deep that it causes an initial shock, resulting in a red bump. The bumps shouldn't last more than 24 - 48 hours.

If you have a bruise after your appointment, this too is normal. The skin in the bikini area is usually thinner that the skin in other areas and can bruise easily. the bruise should go away in a 24-48 hours. Applying arnica gel afterwards can quicken the healing process
